From: Pieter Stouten SHOGI NET> Date: 14 apr 2002 Subject: European Championship, 22-25 August 2002, Brussels, Belgium Dear Shogi fans, I am pleased to announce the 18th European Shogi Championship (ESC)/4th Worldwide Open Shogi Championship (WOSC) double event. The tournament will take place in the RIKAB Institute in the exciting city of Brussels, Belgium from Thursday evening 22 August through Sunday afternoon 25 August 2002. On Thursday evening we will have the traditional Blitz Championship. The main event, the combined ESC/WOSC, will be contested over 9 rounds (3 on Friday, 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday). This year we managed to strike an absolutely fabulous deal with the venue. For the total amount of only 100 Euro (approximately 88 USD), each ESC/WOSC participant gets: * Three nights in a single room * Full board for 3 days * Totally free participation in the ESC/WOSC * Free coffee and tea during playing hours * Access to an analysis room and a computer room with free internet connectivity The largest ever number of participants in the ESC was 82 in the 2000 edition. With the deal we offer this year and the ESC being held in a fantastic city like Brussels, we have all ingredients to beat that number! Please refer to for more information. See you all in Brussels in August, Pieter Stouten (on behalf of the ESC 2002 Organaizing Committee)
