I believe it =20 is customary as the first tiebreak in shogi. It's also called Solkoff. Median-Buchholz (or Median, or Harkness) throws out the best and worst =20 opponents. It's arguably fairer than straight Buchholz, especially if =20 you have at least 6 rounds. The usual first tiebreak in U.S. chess tournaments is "modified medi= an", which throws out the worst but not the best opponent. This is very = sensible, because tiebreaking is important for the players near the top b= ut not important for players near the bottom. I recommend it also for sh= ogi.
