Note that the ranks get progre= ssively wider as you go up. Similarly, the kyu ranks become progressivel= y narrower until reaching the minimum width of 80 points. This is all in= line with the Japanese custom of requiring progressively more wins for e= ach promotion. The Internet "ShogiDojo" uses these midpoints: 1 Dan 1600, 2 Dan 180= 0, 3 Dan 2000 etc.; 1 kyu 1500, 2 kyu 1400, 3 kyu 1300 etc. Their rating= s are generally about 400 points lower than PanAtlantic ratings for the s= ame people (somewhat less at the top and more at the bottom).
