From: Reijer Grimbergen FU IS SAGA-U AC JP> Date: 23 may 2001 Subject: Meijin match game 4 It is not often that a two-day title match game is played on Saturday and Sunday and that is probably the reason I completely forgot about it. I haven't seen the result of the game posted yet, so I apologize if everyone already knows the result. Maruyama bounced back from a mediocre performance in game three to win game four and even the match at two games each. It seemed like a fine win by Maruyama, who got a breakthrough in the middle game and with an anaguma (albeit unfinished) against Tanigawa's Shikenbisha this is usually an important, if not winning, advantage. In the end it seemed like Tanigawa magically got some attack out of nowhere, but I don't think there was anything there to really bother the Meijin. So far this is a strange match that is very hard to predict. I wonder what the experts in next week's Shukan Shogi will say about all this.
