From: Jochen Drechsler NIKOCITY DE> Date: 3 may 2001 Subject: International Games Fair 2001 in Essen, Germany International Games Fair 2001 in Essen, Germany Dear Shogi-Players from Germany and all over the world, shogi is still not very well known outside Japan as everybody knows. We thought that it would be very important to present shogi at the annual Games Fair (Spielemesse) in Essen. This could be another small step to popularize shogi in Europe and Germany in particular. Among the 140.000 visitors there are also many visitors from other (European) countries. The Games Fair in Essen is the biggest games fair in the world. The visitors go to the fair because they are interested in games; they want to find out about new games, play them and also buy them. I know that the chess and go booths attract many people. There should also be some potential shogi players that are just waiting to find out about this fascinating game. The only problem is that we do not yet have enough volunteers that would support our booth. We need people that would staff our booth and explain shogi to the people passing by. The fair takes place from Thursday, the 18th of October 2001 till Sunday, the 21st. On Wednesday we will have to set up our booth. The fair is open from 10 oŽ clock till 18 oŽ clock. We are obliged to staff our booth at all times. Please write an e-mail to me if you are interested to help in this project to spread the knowledge of shogi. If we do not get enough volunteers, we will not be able to do it! With kind regards, Jochen Drechsler. President of the German Shogi Association
