I was e-mailed (in Jan 00) by Steve Hart of Oxford Softworks that upgrades
would be provided, 'proabably six monthly'. I haven't checked if it is being
updated - it's not like I'm beating it regularly or anything...

Yes, thanks - which one is strongest at its best?

Are the best shogi programs regularly tested against each other and people
in
the same way as chess programs?
