From: Eiki Ito HAL COM> Date: 19 mar 2001 Subject: Japanese->English Translation for Web Pages Available Hi All, I just heard of an interesting news. >- NIFTY Introduces "@nifty Global gate" Web Translation Site > > -- Allows users to view English Internet sites in Japanese > and Japanese sites in English -- > > March 15, 2001 -- NIFTY Corporation today announced that it has > established "@nifty Global gate" (http://www.nifty.com/globalgate/), > a website with English to Japanese and Japanese to English > translation capability on its @nifty.com site. @nifty, NIFTY's > Internet service has over 4.5 million subscribers and is Japan's > largest ISP. http://www.nifty.com/globalgate/ itself is a Japanese page and you'll see lots of (apparently) junks, but don't worry: click the button that's immediately right to a field labled "URL:". There are two selections, change the default. Here you are selecting "Japanese->English" instead of "English->Japanese". Then enter whatever URL to the URL field and click another button which is located right to the translation selectin button mentioned above. A translated page will appear. Try www.shogi.or.jp (Renmei's page) if you'd like. There are some (lots?) mistranslations (e.g. "Habu" is translated as "Hanyuu"), but overall I think this is not too bad. thanks, eiki
