(about Sam Sloan HP) I have seen a game of Tanigawa, where culd not promote his bishop in a tsume sequence, because a move later he had to drop a pawn to mate his opponents king. If the bishop would have been promoted, the pawn drop would deliver mate and therefore illegal. Without the bishops promotion it was just a check and the mate came one or two moves later.
