From: "Ignacio Fco. Suárez Boville" informaticosmix com> Date: 5 mar 2001 Subject: not promoting rook or bishop? (about Sam Sloan HP) I've been reading Sam Sloan page about shogi and I've noticed in one of his "(work this out)" remarks that there exists positions where it is better to choose not to promote the rook or the bishop. Can anyone give me a sample position in which one should better not promote Rook or Bishop. I just can't believe it. (Well, if it wasn't Sam I'd actually discarded it yet). I can't understand how can an unpromoted rook or bishop do just anything their promoted versions can't (being their movement pattern a superset of the original ones). If this is true, I guess that it has something to do with some strange rule application I don't know. I'll be right here waiting your comments. See ya'll. ============================================= Ignacio F. Suárez Beauville Tu correo gratis en MixMail http://www.mixmail.com Vótanos en los Premios iBest http://www.ya.com/ibest
