From: Pieter Stouten EU PNU COM> Date: 26 jun 2001 Subject: 17th European Championship at 5th MSO in London Hello Shogi fans, Great news: there will be a Mind Sports Olympiad in London this year and, equally important, it will host the European Shogi Championship and several Shogi satellite events. DATES MSO 5: Saturday 18 - Monday 27 August DATES ESC 17: Friday 24 - Sunday 26 August VENUE: South Bank University, Wandsworth Road Campus, London SW8 2JZ PROGRAMME: apart from the ESC, we will most likely see the return of the ever popular Blitz Championship (Thu 23 AM), the simultaneous event (Thu 23 PM), and the Team Match and Shogi for Beginners (Wed 22). In addition we plan one or more variants tournaments. ACCOMMODATION: the MSO organization is currently in the process of identifying suitable accommodation for the players. We will pass on all information about affordable lodging as soon as we receive it, but unlike last year players will have to make their own reservations directly with the hostel/hotel of their choice. LOCATION: the venue can be found on the intersection of Wandsworth Road, Belmore Street and Landsdowne Way. It is located South of the River Thames, between the Chelsea and Vauxhall Bridges, roughly in the middle of a triangle formed by Battersea Park, Vauxhall and Brixton. It is near Stockwell Undergound station (Northern and Victoria lines). SPONSORSHIP: unfortunately, the MSO itself has not secured sponsorship this year, so we will not have the budget to cover prizes and accommodation and travel expenses that we had last year. As soon as we decide on reimbursement to players, we'll let you know. Other information will be distributed on SHOGI-L as soon as it becomes available. Hope to see you all in London this year, Pieter Stouten (on behalf of the MSO 2001 Shogi Festival Council)
