From: Reijer Grimbergen ETL GO JP> Date: 11 jan 2001 Subject: Osho match game 1 Nothing changes on New Year's Day... Tanigawa's problems against Habu continue into the new century as he starts the year with a loss in the first game of the Osho title match. Habu, with white, played the R8e Yokofudori and this resulted in a great fight. Tanigawa got the early material advantage (a lance), but he was forced on the defensive as a result. In the end it became a violent semeai (mutual attack) and until six moves before the end noone in the press room (and neither player as well) knew who would win. Then Habu found a nice knight sacrifice to give his attack decisive strength and Tanigawa had no mate. It looked like a great fight and I am looking forward to next week's Shukan Shogi.
