From: Reijer Grimbergen ETL GO JP> Date: 2 feb 2001 Subject: Re: Antwort: Ranging vs Static Here are the statistics for professional games over the last three years (taken from Shukan Shogi no.853, August 16th 2000): Black Yagura: 1997-1998 55.3% 1998-1999 51.9% 1999-2000 54.9% Black Ranging Rook: 1997-1998 43.9% 1998-1999 46.4% 1999-2000 41.8% White Ranging Rook: 1997-1998 44.2% 1998-1999 45.2% 1999-2000 44.6% Black Aigakari: 1997-1998 44.9% 1998-1999 52.0% 1999-2000 42.2% Black Yokofudori: 1997-1998 57.8% 1998-1999 45.1% 1999-2000 47.4% Black Kakugawari: 1997-1998 60.8% 1998-1999 55.4% 1999-2000 62.4% So black should aim for the kakugawari opening (or yagura) and white should play yokofudori. Statistically ranging rook is a bad choice, so Morishita blundered early against Tanigawa (^-^).
