From: "Majewski, Thomas" WABCO-AUTO COM> Date: 24 apr 2001 Subject: 1. Berlin Open Shogi Tournament Dear Shogi players, this weekend the 1. Berlin Open Shogi Tournament took place in the Japanese-German-Centre in Berlin. 17 players found their way to play for fun and to decide, who is going to go to the tournament in New York. The tournament has been won by Marc Theeuwen from the Netherlands, who seems to be unbeatable at the moment. As he is also the Dutch champion and already entitled to News York, the runners up had to play another game. This game was won by Boris Mirnik against Thomas Majewski. Remarkable was the visit of Kawada Hiroki, 3. Dan, who was a major force in European Shogi some years ago, while living in Berlin. He was the discoverer of Boris Mirnik (who later became European Champion) and cofounder of shogi in Berlin. He found out the by hard way that Shogi in Europe has become stronger :-) Remarkable was the play of Norbert Sch=E4fer, who started his first tournam= ent as 15. Kyu, but could only be stopped from the play off with Boris by Thomas Majewski. Nothing to be proud of, as Norbert lost on time, while having a tsume. Thomas Majewski Pl. Name Str Co.
