The Championship is part of Japan 2001, and, supported by the Japan Foundation, will be visited by Shogi Professionals from Japan over the weekend. It will also form part of the MSO Cambridge 2001, which also includes competitions for Chess, Go, Xiang-xi and Othello. Venue: The University Centre, Cambridge CB2 1RU, UK. The venue is situated near the centre of the historic University City of Cambridge. Refreshments can be purchased at reasonable prices there. Format: o Swiss/McMahon tournament of 6 rounds (no handicaps). o Possibly split into Dan-Group (1-kyu and above) and Kyu-Group(s) (2-kyu and below), depending on the number of entries. o Highest placed British entrant will win the title of British Shogi Champion. o Highest placed entrant of any nationality will win the title of British Open Shogi Champion. o Qualification tournament for the World Shogi Championships to be held in New York in October 2001. Title holders: Open & British: Tony Hosking, 3-dan Championship registration: from 0945hr (Sat). 1st round: 1015hr (Sat). 2nd round: 1300hr (Sat). 3rd round: 1530hr (Sat). 4th round: 0930hr (Sun). 5th round: 1300hr (Sun). 6th round: 1530hr (Sun).
