From: Phil Holland HOLLANDNUMERICS DEMON CO UK> Date: 3 nov 2000 Subject: 2001 British Open Shogi Championship The date of the 2001 British Open Shogi Championship has been determined by the BSF involvement in the Japan 2001 Festival in Britain, which starts at the beginning of May 2001, and goes through to March 2002. The event is being supported by the Japanese Embassy in London, and, as part of our involvement, there has been agreement (in principle) with the Nihon Shogi Renmei for them to send a Shogi Professional to the British Open during the Festival. The Championship date has been set as the weekend of the 5th/6th May 2001, which is the earliest date possible within the Festival period. It is a great honour to be able to host a tournament with a visiting Shogi Professional, and we are certainly not inclined to miss out on this opportunity. Given that the World Championship committee have been given plenty of notice of our intentions, could their tournament date be set a little later this year to minimise any conflicts between the 2 events? Alternatively we could try to organise an earlier qualifying tournament in Britain, but, I suspect, a minimum entry of 12 players, as in 2000, would be extremely difficult to achieve other than at the Open. If anyone would like to find out more, please feel free to email me. ...........Phil Holland -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Phil Holland BSF FESA Representative 94 Green Drift, Royston, Herts SG8 5BT, UK mobile: +44-(0)7714-279085 tel/fax: +44-(0)1763-244497 email : bcs org uk> URL : http://www.hollandnumerics.demon.co.uk/BSF.HTM --------------------------------------------------------------
