This is fifty points higher than the provisional USCF rating earned by his shogi rival Moriuchi (2295). Both of them plus Sato Meijin (who is thought to be slightly weaker than these two in chess) played against GM Joel Lautier in a three board clock simul last year in Tokyo, but Lautier won all three games.
