From: Reijer Grimbergen ETL GO JP> Date: 19 may 2000 Subject: This week in Shukan Shogi (amendment) In the "This week in Shukan Shogi" report I completely forgot the second most important shogi news of last week. Habu took a major step to adding the Kisei title to his four crowns by beating Moriuchi in the final of the challenger knock-out. For Moriuchi it was the second year in a row that he lost the final game and losing to Habu must be extra frustrating. There was not much he could do about it this time, since Habu showed that he is in great form these days. Moriuchi was outplayed after a middle game with good chances for both players. In the end Habu decided the game with a rook sacrifice that slowed Moriuchi's attack enough to win. It is a long time since about became challenger for a major title: four years! He must be considered the favourite against Tanigawa, since Habu won his last ten tournament games. A fifth crown in the making? Reijer
