As to the Xiangqi package: I bet the package didn't come
with your distribution... Look at your next CTAN mirror site
(or www.dante.de), or have a look at
www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive, or... BTW, the package's name is
CCHESS. (You should have a look at Goosens, Rahtz,
Mittelbach, The LaTeX Graphics Companion, Addison-Wesley
Longman 1997, esp. pp277--299 !!)

The Shogi fonts Reijer pointed are really nice looking,
which makes them hard to take as a basis for working on
further.
Problem is, that the .tfm file which should come along with
the .mf source is missing (well, at least there was no
pointer to it). I'd be glad to get further information on
the style file. Have these files ever been uploaded to a
CTAN site? If not, you (or your colleagues, resp.) should be
all means consider to do so!
