I've been promoting shogi for years, and my experience has been that, even in a conservative and close-minded town like Cincinnati, OH, many chess players will try shogi. I would say about 15% of the chessplayers here have tried it and about 5% stick with it for a long time. So, I have to side with Manabu on this one. It's easy to get 10% of chessplayers to at least try it, but it's hard to get them to stick with it. You have to really push them and hype up shogi a lot.
