From: Douglas Dysart HOTMAIL COM> Date: 3 mar 2000 Subject: Re: This week in Shukan Shogi (no. 829, March 1st 2000) I'm intrigued by the "second-chance" sections of the title matches we've seen lately. I'm wondering how long it's been around. I might be mistaken, but I got the impression some "second-chance" sections start after the first round while others (like the Kio) start in the second round. Is there any rhyme or reason to all of this? How does the seeding work in relation with who has the best chance for a second chance. Another interesting question is if the formats of the tournaments vary much. And, in relation to the Dutch Championships, would a second-chance (or "double elimination" tournament, as we Americans call it) fit into a Swiss tourney also? Please excuse me if my questions are overly naive. I'm sure all of this stuff will be explaned in a future edition of the American Shogi Quarterly!
