Subject: Promotion

     Since it's not too often that westerners earn Dan rank promotions, I
thought I'd mention to the list that tonite my son Raymond Kaufman (age 17)
earned promotion to 2 Dan under the US Shogi Federation guidelines.  He did
so primarily by winning quite a few handicap games in recent weeks from
strong 4 Dan players.
