These comments will be appreciated if they are actually practical and useful to the particular tournament and if someone can present us the proposal with actual format. The committee of the shogi world championship hereby invite your proposal which could actually fit to the tournament held on May 20th nd 21st in New York. The committee will analyze all of the proposals and will award $100 to the winner if minimum 5 proposals are made. It is a sole discretion of the tournament committee to determine the winner. Closing date of the proposal : June 30, 200 5:00pm New York Time. The proposal shall be sent to " smasui banet net" directly or through shogi-L Conditions of the tournament is as follows, which shall not be changed as the tournament was held exactly under such conditions. 1) Total numbers of players: Estimated to be 70 plus minus 6 and actual numbers shall be known at 10:00pm of May 19th the closing time of registration. However schedule must be made 5 weeks in advance in order to print on the program of the tournament. You had to make very flexible format. 2) 19 players are seeded for A-Class invited by the tournament who won the qualification tournament of each countries or association. Their level of skill is various from 6-kyu to 5 Dan. 3) Due to many reasons, the tournament decided not to refer any ratings or Dan/Kyu for making format (Dear L arry: Please do not argue) 4) Pro/Am: 19 seeded players waived classification tournament and invited to play at Pro/AM Kakuochi Handicap game (Dropping Kaku) for the prize of $1,000 (1st Place) and $500 (2nd Place) for the most winning amateur out of 3 rounds of games against Pros. 5) Time available to the tournament: May 20th (Sat) : 9:15am - 18:15pm (one hour lunch break) May 21st (Sun) : 9:00am - 15:30pm (all games must be finished except final game of the championship class (class-A). May 21st (Sun) : 15:30 - 17:30pm : World Championship- final game (to be broadcasted by IT) Prizes: Tournament announced 5 months in advance that: A-Class (Championship Class) 1st : $3,000 2nd: $1,500 3rd : $500 4th : 300 B-Class: 1st: $1,500 2nd: $700 3rd: $300 4th : $100 C-Class: 1st: $300 2nd: $100 Other classes, if any: surprise prizes. The tournament committee will be very lad to learn if you could propose any better schedule. To be fair to everybody following was the schedule printed in the program of the tournament committee, which had to be determined 5 weeks before without knowing exact numbers of players nor level of the skills of some players. May 20th(Sat): 9:15am - 14:45pm Pro/Am for seeded players ( rounds) 9:15am - 14:45pm Classification Match (Swiss system) for all other participants 14:45pm - 15:15pm Drawing for finals of A,B,C classes. 15:15pm - 16:45pm First round of A Class (Losers are classed to consolation-1) 16:45pm - 18:15pm 2nd round of A Class (losers are classed to consolation-2) 14:45pm - 18:15pm B,C classes could enjoy Pro's Teaching corner and/or Shogi Dojo May 21st(Sun): 8:45am - 10:15am - A class 3rd round and 1st round of Consolation-1, Consolation-2 and B, C class. 10:15am - 11:45pm A Class 4th round and other classes (4 classes) 2nd round, Losers could enjoy Pro's teaching corner and/or Shogi Dojo. 11:45am- 12:30pm Lunch break 12:30pm-14:00pm Semi Final of all classes. 14:00pm - 15:30pm B,C, and Consolation final 15:30pm - 17:50pm Final of Championship Class A-Class) The tournament completed very punctually on time for both days. Well, would you challenge to the above with your better system and format. Show us how will you make it with your favorite swiss to satisfy all of the participants without delay. For your convenience you may use 1 to 70 to identify a person and 1-19 will be seeded players. For instance you may assume 1 as Egoshi and 70 as Masui.
