From: Leung Kai Wan GRADUATE HKU HK> Date: 3 jun 2000 Subject: Re: News from Shogi World Championship Dear Masui san, Just a few suggestions about the tournaments and wish these can be helpful for your improvements. All attended players appreciate your travelling arrangement. But some other people seemed to have difficulties to go themselves and didn't join the matches. Would you link some tourists guides and hotel home pages to your web site, whoever tried to go themselves would have their trips easier with more information. Not only the final game was exciting. Could you spare someone to record the semi-final and quarter-final games kifu, everyone can share more interesting games. Even if your manpower was too tight, some lost players would be happy to take up this task and enjoyed the best seat to watch the games. The professionals delivered valuable comments about the game in tournament venue and in shogidojo. However, I am a bit disappointed to read only the kifu but without annotations on the web site. If anyone has kept the pros' remark, would you please post it here or elsewhere? Many of us are grateful to read the pros' analyses. I would also like to ask whether one championship final game was too decisive or best of three games could be better? Sato Meijin won back to 3-2 from 0-2 losses. Egoshi san won convincingly against Ito san. If one or two more games followed, would Egoshi san won again or Ito san fought back? Many of us would like to see the answer on the board. The final game started at 4 am Japanese time or 3 am Hong Kong time. Would you rearrange the schedule such that the final games started at around 9-10 am NY time, many more people in East Asia could share the game instanteously. Probably many Ito san's friends in Bangkok agree with me at this point. There can be a lot of interesting programmes in the afternoon such as ama-pro matches, inter-continental tournaments, etc. My viewpoint about the knout-out versus Swiss issue is posted already and not to be repeated here. My comments may impose further scheduling constraints with cost implications. Sorry if these are too perfectionistic. Wish these can contribute to a more successfully championship next year. Also wish I can win the qualifying match to see all of you. Best regards, Kai Wan Leung Hong Kong, China
