From: Pieter Stouten SHOGI NET> Date: 13 jan 2000 Subject: New magazine *Abstract Games* Many of the older Shogi players may remember Kerry Handscomb from one of those memorable Shogi tournaments in Oxford. Those were the days that Chris Bekker, Lex Kiers, Hans de Graaf and I spent close to a week in an alcohol and Shogi daze in Mike Loftus's place, with sickening boat trips to and from England to boot. Anyway, Kerry suddenly popped up in Canada and has now produced a new magazine called *Abstract Games*. Please find below excerpts from a mail Kerry sent to me about it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm just printing the first issue of a new magazine called *Abstract Games*. It contains articles on LOA, Bashne, Kyoto Shogi and Mentalis, as well as game-related news and reviews. Despite being professionally produced (my regular job is in the magazine industry), it is very much a labour of love. I'm covering all the costs myself. Maybe I'll recover the costs, but I certainly don't expect to make any money from it. I know it's not shogi [it does cover Kyoto Shogi /Pieter], but I guess that many shogi players are also interested in other games. Kind regards, Kerry Handscomb sprint ca>
