The Mind Sports Olympiad (organized annually in London, UK) brings together thousands of people from all over the world devoted to the pursuit of mind sports. This year the organizers (MSO Worldwide Ltd.) hope to break the magical 15,000 participants barrier, which would make it larger even than the regular (IOC) Olympics! MSO Worldwide also has a web site , with the largest array of news, links, online games and thought-provoking articles about board games, card games and puzzles available anywhere. It also sponsors the Shogi.Net site . The Mind Sports Olympiad features a Shogi Festival (23-27 August 2000) that consists of a handicap team match, a "Shogi for Beginners" session, a simultaneous handicap event, the MSO Worldwide Blitz Shogi Championship, and as top of the bill the 3-day, 9-rounds combined European Shogi Championship/MSO Worldwide Shogi Championship (ESC/MSOWSC, 25-27 August 2000). The ESC/MSOWSC is expected to attract 80-115 participants from all over the world!
