If I want colored pieces on colored squares, what's wrong with that? It's not going to affect my opponent who wants to use traditional kanji pieces. Each person can have it their own way. All I really want is to have my pieces colorized while still using kanji. I think yellow is a dreadfully boring color online, no matter how great it looks in real life. Does that make me some kind of outcast? I'm not suggesting altering the playing equipment for face to face games, but everyone seems to be discussing the equipment they use to teach people to play shogi in person. It's not possible to have colored pieces in shogi because of the way the game works, but online the computer CAN deliver the color. As far as chinese chess, I think it would be great if someone wrote an interface to play on the squares.
