I don't see what's so fantastic about 40. .. Nxe4.
This line is almost forced:

41. Rxg6 Nf2+ 42. Kg1 Nh3+ 43. Kf1 fxe2+
44. Qxe2 Qf5 (only square)

and now white can force a draw,
45. Rd7+! Bxd7 46. Rg7+ and Rg6+

or try to win with 45. Rg7+

Habu probably played the best move at line 40.
