I think this is perfectly legal. I believe that I have seen professional players doing this on televised games. I am very surprised that he claims that this is illegal. On what authority does he say this? By the way, Pieter Stouten about three years ago banned me from posting my shogi rules to this group, saying that he had already written the rules of shogi and that there was no need for further discussion of the rules.
