It is hard to follow the opponent's, or other player's, comments after the game because of this reason. However, I have found that by sending them a message such as: "Sorry, I cannot read the Japanese kanji" will result in their switching to nearly perfect English! It has worked for me about 75% of the time. >BTW, >I have never had the difficulty with challenges you mentioned though of >course their login names are often incomprehensible for the above stated >reason I think. > >Jose > >-----Original Message----- >From: Colin Paul Adams COLINA DEMON CO UK> >Date: Saturday, September 18, 1999 11:34 AM >Subject: More views on Shogi Dojo > >>I'm not so keen on Shogi Dojo after all. >> >>I can't read the writing most of the time (the print is larger than >>the windows it is displayed in). There are four board sizes available, listed in the "option" menu. Try playing in the Large size and analizing afterward in the Compact size, which will enable you to see the "watchers" list and comments. >>it won't let me challenge people most of the time, or if it does, it >>challenges the wrong person. There can be several reasons for this. When entering Shogi Dojo you are placed in the "lounge", which is a non-playing room. First, you MUST be in a "Game Room" (either for "rated" game [long, normal or short game prefered] or "free" game [same options as for a rated game]) to challenge others. Additionally you must be in the same room, that is, "rated" or "free", to be able to challenge others. To enter a playing room you must push the "Game Room" button next to the "Entry" button and select the desired room. Once in a game room you can only challenge those players in a state [heading title] of "wait" by double-clicking their name and pushing the "Challenge!" button. A screen will appear for you to select the desired time-limit and again you must click the "challenge" button there and wait for a reply. Each time you finish a game you are automatically placed in the "lounge" again and must repeat the process. As for challenging the wrong person I suspect that you tried to click on a name as the list was being updated and selected the wrong person. Or, sometimes it also happens that another person challenges you just before your challenge is issued and it will automatically erase your challenge. In this case, you must first accept or decline [can choose a number of pre-selected reasons for refusing a challenge] the incoming challenge. If you decline it and want to re-issue your original challenge you must repeat the process.
