From: teruko PO2 NSKNET OR JP> Date: 31 oct 1999 Subject: Various I have the pleasure to expound various details of "the world's first 3rd millenium kyotoginkakukinkeihifushougi tournament" held to celebrate the Celtic new year and coincidentaly my birthday as follows, as I proposed the event the mantle of organiser seemed naturally to fall on me, accordingly I chose a system familiar to players of pool in UK pubs, i.e. if you win you play again and if you're not winning but want to play you submit your challenge. The idea was that the winner retained the table but had to consume during the game a drink paid for by the challenger, by such we (the organisationally disinclined) hoped to at one stroke accomplish entry fee, venue hire, handicapping, pairing and performance related prizes. Naturally things transpired otherwise, in fact the tournament was dominated by members of Kanazawa shogi centre (sharks who had studied for the preceding week) who claimed tea-totalism. The winner will receive a cuddly rattlesnake when I can find the wherewithall to construct such a beast. The tournament's eventual winner was Yamanishi-5dan master of Kanazawa shogi centre, I append the kesshosen with Izumino-5dan. 14R 22T 34G 23L 24R 33T 23P 34L 34S 22G 45T 23G 23B 33R 34L 34R 34K 32T 43N 42K 51N 51K 55R 53R 53R, etc.
