From: Pieter Stouten SHOGI NET> Date: 25 oct 1999 Subject: First Italian Open Shogi Championship: schedule The first ever Italian Open Shogi Championship will take place in the majestic Castello Sforzesco right in the centre of Milan, Italy on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 December 1999 as part of a week long Mind Sports event comprising Chess, Go, Shogi, Dames (Draughts), Esoteric Chess Variants, Mah Jong, Risk, Backgammon and Othello. The Shogi schedule is as follows: Sat 4 Dec 10:00 round 1 12:00 round 2 15:00 round 3 17:00 round 4 Sun 5 Dec 9:00 AIS inaugural meeting + round 5 for non-AIS members 11:00 round 6 13:00 prize giving ceremony Time limits are 45 minutes plus 30 seconds byoyomi. A Swiss pairing system (possibly a McMahon variant) will be employed. All players, who attend the AIS meeting and do not play round 5, will get a one-point bye. There is no entry fee and Enrico Tognoni and I provide free overnight accommodation on a first-come-first-served basis. A cheap hotel within 15 minutes walking from the playing venue is also available. Guests of honour will be David Levy and Kristian Dahl (CEO) of MSO Worldwide.
