From: Jonathan Tisdall C2I NET> Date: 15 oct 1999 Subject: Re: java and shogi\chess Thanks very much for the responses, I will turn the programs over to our technical staff, and see what we can come up with and when, all of us being overworked. As to generating html from Shocky, I would really like to see that - I assume it would be a trivial matter to embed what it outputs into the template of our pages at the MSO. When you say an unreleased version of Shocky, how would one see it in action? How much call is there for it? Well, I don't know, more and more I hope. The limited experience I have so far is that a viewer is the single most important thing for hooking people and introducing them to games. Right now we seem to be getting some attention with the xiangqi, and if we get something set up for shogi, and something interesting to show regularly, I think we could get some traffic. I believe that ChessBase considers the gamedata=>html\java the most vital component of their future software packages. You can already see the first generation of this function around on various sites. Ideally we would like to cover the major events of major games live. Then we would need a nice viewer\generator combo, though this may evolve from the client we have. By the way, has anyone been to the MSO and tried the client or chat facilities? The client doesn't play well at all, but it is a nice interface if people want to play each other. I know we have Zillions fans here. jt At 12:04 14.10.99 +0300, you wrote: > >Maybe Shogi Viewer Applet made by Joris Ballet is what you need? >It is free and can be downloaded from his web page: >http://www.club.innet.be/~jballet/ShogiViewer/ > >BTW, my shogi program Shocky (unreleased version of it) can save games >directly as HTML pages using the Shogi Viewer Applet classes and format. >It can also read several game notations (e.g. Reijer Grimbergen's shogi >reports), so my software could be used to transform games from text files >into web pages.
