From: Jonathan Tisdall C2I NET> Date: 14 oct 1999 Subject: java and shogi\chess Hello all, I don't know how many here have ever visited the Mind Sports Olympiad site at www.msoworld.com but we are slogging away, doing our best. At the moment, some real progress in promoting xiangqi is being made, thanks to some very enthusiastic groups happy to pitch and try to help, and our coverage of a match between their more or less world champion vs the rest of the world. I have since been asked why we do not have a simple (java) shogi viewer, like the one being used to demonstrate the xiangqi game. So I thought I should ask - is there a very simple shogi viewer java applet? I think the xiangqi one is very basic indeed, but it allows nice clear viewing and simple text notes, and is very clear and elegant. It is tiny and loads quickly. Does such a thing exist for shogi, and is it for use or sale? On the subject of Habu and others in the chess simul vs. Lautier - Joel has an article about his trip which will be appearing in Europe Echecs, and he will be doing an interview with me in a few weeks, which will go up at the MSO site. So we should finally get some insight. jt
