I suggest that putting in actual hard returns would anyway cure this problem (i.e., physically hitting "Enter" when you reach the end of a line in your composition window rather than typing on and letting the program wrap automatically to the size of that composition window), or at least insofar people are not using smaller screen widths than your composition window (I think you can assume you can safely use some 70+ characters on a line). (Since I tend to write mostly Usenet posts, I am used to trying to do this anyway.
