Yes, this is interesting difference in the feeling of the time. Japanese people often think staying other's house till late is a rude manner because it may be disturbing to the host. The problem is what time is too late. I think 22h is too late for Japanese people. But, I guess, European people may think 3AM is too late (or early in the morning?). (If my guess is wrong, please correct it.) So, when a Japanese say "I go back." around 22h, it does not always mean "I am tired."
