From: Fabien Osmont ALTERN ORG> Date: 24 nov 1999 Subject: Re: professional visit? Hi Gert, As you can see there : http://www.multimania.com/asa , Some professional Shogi players have yet come by us. We had no "official" expenses. That means, the japanese Shogi association (Nihon Shogi Renmei) has given money to the player to pay his hotel and restaurants. So, our expenses were only due to the gifts we wanted to give to the professionnal, and our own expenses when we went to the restaurants. For the rest, it's better if someone can guide the player during the day. Generally, we played really Shogi (or take a lesson) at the evening because our shogi players worked during the day... Don't forget that, generally, japanese people seems to want to go back to the hotel early (before 21h/21h30). Then, you have to organise your meetings not so late to have enough time to play. Or course, speaking japanese could be a good thing. The minimum is to have someone who speaks english. It's allways interesting to receive a pro because it's a good occasion to learn some tips & tricks about method of playing, and moreover an evaluation of your playing level. But be careful with this evaluation : kyu and dan in Europe seem to not be the same than in Japan. That's all. If you have any questions, let's ask !
