From: Jonathan Tisdall C2I NET> Date: 18 nov 1999 Subject: MSO and shogi news Hello all, As you may know, I am working on the "Mindzine" at the Mind Sports Olympiad site, and am currently following my personal bias of promoting Asian games, as it is my firm belief that building a bridge between the great games of the west and east is vital for the future of internet play. We have already made great strides in creating unique western coverage of XiangQi, but have not had any source for news outside of this list, which is of course excellent. Looking back through my list archives and my collection of George Hodges' classic magazine, I can't help thinking that there exists through the efforts of people here, a core of material that could help popularize shogi. Larry Kaufman's invaluable writing on handicap play, the old series of strength drills from Manabu Terao, years of Shukan from Reijer. I was wondering if anyone is interested in helping the MSO either to use their old material, or to act as a shogi sub-editor, coordinating permission and conversion of existing material, and preparing ongoing articles. It would particularly wonderful if someone with their pulse on the Japanese scene could help to somehow start bringing the wealth of literature out to the west. Since I have a double bias (Asian games and shogi) I would really love to set this project in motion. If anyone is interested in discussing this further please contact me via email. Thanks in advance, jt
