From: DANERUD MARTIN TELIA COM> Date: 12 nov 1999 Subject: A good time and a good place to play shogi Dear shogi friends, Today, I visited the Swedish capital Stockholm. The weather was nice, = about ten degrees centigrade and sunshine, the tennis tournament Stockholm Open is back to normal again, and the Stockholm = shogi club prepares to welcome you all next weekend. As of today, a = dozen of Stockholmers and five Goteborg players have registered. We also = expect some foreigners. The three earlier international shogi = tournaments in Sweden have attracted a total of 42 starters. Of those, = there were seven Norwegians, one Israelian, one Japanese, one Englishman, and 32 Swedes. Among the ten = foreign starters in these three tournaments we find the two most successful kyu players of the Open EC 1999, Alan Baker (GB) and = Terje Christoffersen (N) (two starts). British Open has been visited by seven, German Open by at least five, and the European = Championship by fifteen Swedish starters during the last four years. We hope that this growing trend of international contacts = involving Swedish shogi will continue.=20 =20 November 20-21, the next Swedish international shogi tournament will be = arranged, this time by the shogi club in Stockholm. Please spread this information to your shogi friends in the Nordic = countries as well as in the rest of Europe. Stockholm Open 1998 was a sensational tournament with 20 participants, and probably the = northernmost international shogi tournament ever arranged. The first Stockholm Open champion was Mr Carl Johan Nilsson from = Goteborg Shogi Society.=20 Stockholm Open 1999 Round schedule: Round: Time: 1 Sat November 20 1.00 p.m. 2 Sat November 20 4.00 p.m. 3 Sat November 20 7.00 p.m 4 Sun November 21 9.00 a.m. 5 Sun November 21 noon. 6 Sun November 21 3.00 p.m. Personal registration: Sat November 20 12.45 p.m. Time limit: 1 hour + 30 s byo-yomi.
