From: Eric Cheymol MAIL DOTCOM FR> Date: 22 may 1999 Subject: Shogi-L current subjects I am astonished that the discussion started by Sam Sloan inspires a such huge amount of mails in the shogi list :-) Sam is a genious for beginning such a kind of discussion, we already saw it. As Georges Fernandez pointed out, this discussion is an internal US Federation problem only. The coming FIST tournament is a major event for western amateur shogi and could be discussed on the sport's point of view : who will be the winner, what will be the leading country in the amateur shogi world (except Japan of course) ? Larry has good chances, but many countries have some very strong representatives too. Instead of this, the FIST tournament leads to a lengthy political discussion ... The Meijin tournament is still in competition, it is the major event of the professional shogi scene, isn't it ? Or I missed something :-) Both players have 2 points now and this announces a very interesting fight for the remaining games. Yasumitsu strongly wants to keep is title. And I read only a very few number of mails on this subject. Perhaps I am simply on the wrong list ? A professional shogi player, Toyokawa 5 Dan, is in Europe now. He visits some european shogi clubs in Europe. This afternoon, we receive him in the Paris shogi club, the best french chess player Joel Lautier will attend the meeting and play some shogi games with the professional. He will travel in Tokyo to play simultaneously chess games against Hobu, Sato Yasumitsu and Moriuchi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eric Cheymol mailto:eric.cheymol mail dotcom fr Get the last european Shogi news at http://www.multimania.com/echeymol ----------------------------------------------------------------------
