Subject: 3D Shgoi pieces

Hi everybody,

some time ago, it was mentioned on the list that chess players complain
about shogi pieces. They are flat, whereas chess pieces are 3D statues.

However, there are 3D shogi pieces, too. I posted a B/W photo at the

It is not perfectly clear to me how the pieces work. In particular, what
happens when a piece becomes promoted?
