From: Sam Sloan ISHIPRESS COM> Date: 23 jun 1999 Subject: Big big very big shogi sets The problem is that not many people inside Japan have much interest in these shogi variations and everything in Japan is expensive. I know for sure that these sets were made on special order. Richard Bozulich went to an artist who designed the sets and quoted a price to Hodges. Hodges, who apparently was a very rich man, agreed to pay. This took place in 1984. I assume Hodges got all the sets which were manufactured. If the manufacturer kept a few and decided to sell in Japan, I do not know about it. Probably Hodges would have objected had he known because he wanted a monopoly. However, if you do want more sets, we are the right people to contact. I do not know but I would be willing to bet that you cannot find them for sale in Japan.
