From: Pieter Stouten INAME COM> Date: 31 jul 1999 Subject: MSO Pan-Atlantic Shogi Championship - NEWS Latest updates -------------- The Mind Sports Olympiad (MSO) and its Pan-Atlantic Shogi Championship (PASC) are approaching rapidly: the MSO starts on Saturday 21 August, the PASC on Sunday 22 August. The latest info on these events can be found on the following pages: Computer shogi exhibition games ------------------------------- On Tuesday, August 24 at 15:30, Jeff Rollason's Shotest Shogi program (3rd place at the past two World Computer Shogi Championships) will play against two top Shogi players, one from each side of the Atlantic: European Stephen Lamb (4-dan) and American Larry Kaufman (5-dan). Ex-shoreikai player to participate ---------------------------------- We are honoured that Ayumu Sato, travelling all the way from Japan, will participate in the MSO/PASC. Ayumu is a former shoreikai player and 1-dan pro (equivalent to 6/7-dan amateur). Registration period for entry fee waiver extended ------------------------------------------------- There is still time to obtain an entry fee waiver! Register with your national shogi organization before Monday 9 August, and play free of charge (saving 25 GBP). Join the 18 players from Norway, USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Japan and the Netherlands, who already signed up. Miscellaneous ------------- - The European Shogi Championship takes place from Friday 27 through Sunday 29 August. The PASC ends on Wednesday August 25 at 15:30, giving players that want to participate in both events ample travelling time. - And remember, a total 2,500 GBP (about 4,000 USD) is available for individual (1700 GBP) and team (800 GBP) prizes.
