There is a Tendo font from Alpine Electronics, which contains both
westernized and Japanese pieces. It comes in both TrueType and
PostScript. Go to <http://www.partae.com/fonts/tendo/tendo.html> for
details.

At <http://users.iol.it/stouten/images/tendo_int.gif>, you can find a
sample of westernized shogi pieces, that I produced with "Tendo
International." I just displayed it with a large font size and Adobe
Type Manager turned on. Then I took a screen shot and turned it into a
gif file. To my untrained eye the results are quite acceptable.
