From: Doug Dysart YAHOO COM> Date: 4 jul 1999 Subject: "Ya Betta Recognize!" - The Shogi Tournament This Tuesday we have yet another shogi tournament on the slate at Fluid Moves Chess Club. It's called, "Ya Betta Recognize." That's because last week we had an awesome spur of the moment tournament with lots of new people and irregular players jumping in and getting excited. The tournament is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 PM. Time controls will be at least 20m/30s. There is no set entry fee as of yet, but I foresee a $5 entry fee being very possible. Since we've now put Ohio on the shogi map, I thought I'd bust a little shogi lyric: Once again, it's the man with the master plan called Shogiman and I think ya'd betta recognize! I'd like to say thanks to George Marino for loaning us the Chicago club's huge demo board. I hope our future relations with them boosts both of our clubs. The guys here in Cincinnati are really fired up about holding a national level tournament. I hope the USSF does what it can to make this possible. Many of the OSC people would like to become USSF members, but they haven't seen any reason to join. Fernandez-san, as the new president, could you please help us? The New York and DC clubs are so awesome, they could help take us from enthusiastic upstarts to a real club. More events outside of the East and West coasts should be encouraged. We've got 5 OSC members who paid $20 for a years membership, but only 3 have paid USSF dues. We should change that now. What are the benefits? Can we get membership cards, a newsletter, and discounts on equipment? We are hurting for some shogi equipment. We'd really like those citizen clocks (the blue ones). Show me the shogi!
