From: Luke Merritt HOTMAIL COM> Date: 28 jan 1999 Subject: Re: Taikyoku Shogi rules I've noticed that a whole lot of pieces from smaller shogi variants have either had their moves changed or have had the moves erroneously recorded. I believe some are in fact in error, as the phoenix is listed as having its normal move we all know, while the kylin is listed as only being able to step move orthagonally forward and backward instead of jumping like its supposed to. I don't believe the fire demon is transcribed as having its burning ability, either. I'm attempting with minimal success to get English equivilants for these pieces, and let me tell you, its not easy. A lot of the kanji is obselete or really advanced stuff, and when I DO get a reading, it doesn't make sense (one piece has kanji for "dove" and "tub"). I could use help, if there is anyone else doing this as well. Thanks. --Luke ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
