From: Glen Miner UNDERGRAD MATH UWATERLOO CA> Date: 20 jan 1999 Subject: WinShogi AI Help Wanted I'm currently working on the AI for WinShogi and I need some help. My problem is I don't really play Shogi. In fact, I don't even know how to make any castles. Worse still, I haven't played against a human in years (Kraftwerk would be proud). But, I've got the AI mechanics fine tuned almost to the point of perfection (so the brain runs as fast as possible). What's missing is the underlying "wisdom" that the brain relies on; being a Shogi novice I'm hardly the best person to come up with this. What I need is some help coming up with the weights the brain uses to assess whether a position is "good" or not. If the people here on the SHOGI-L list would prefer I'll post the full question here, otherwise I'll keep the discussion to e-mail with those who are interested. More information about WinShogi can be found on its Home Page: http://www.nexus.carleton.ca/~ttidman/WinShogi/ peace
