My suggestion is to use an email game server, for instance Richard's Play-By-eMail Server (PBeM). You find info at http://eiss.erols.com/~pbemserv/ , or by mailing pbmserv gamers net with "help tutorial" as the subject. This server supports more than 50 different games, and among these are Shogi and several of its variants. The main advantages of using a game server rather than just sending moves to each other is that it enforces the rules and produces an updated ascii-graphical board that it distributes to all participants (in most games that is 2), and any spectators. It also keeps the history of all games and outcomes, and calculates some kind of ELO-like rating. On PBeM there are lots of gamers available. 80 of these has played Shogi, a dozen of these has played 20 games or more. A followup question: The email Shogi ladder and similar activities discussed on this list, are they comletely unrelated to email game servers? My guess is that it would be advantegous to play most games on such servers, and that this should be encouraged. Or is there a problem, like the fact that such games are public?
