Hm. I made a mistake with my variation (which now becomes the main
line, as Steve's line is not the best defence, and so becomes the
variation).

35. Rx12i,  K-11l,
36. R-11i,  K-12k (or +SM-11k, +Bx11k mate)
37. L-12d+, +SM-12j
38. +B-11l mate.

So 38 moves after all (or 39 if you interpose the FL (a la Evans)).

Sorry to have the last word, Steve. (well, OK, not very sorry :-), but
maybe you can see something else?)
