(I take this idea from another Western proposal called pre-chess, in which you start with only pawns, and place the others on your back rankas your first 8 moves--theory may well develop, but it has the advantage of not adding a luck factor. Besides, shuffle-* would need to be played in two-game sets anyway, and that's not practical short of the highest levels...) J.
