From: George Jost HOTMAIL COM> Date: 11 feb 1999 Subject: Big Shogi Players A couple of years ago I got a TAI Shogi set because I thought that it would be cool to play such a huge game. At that time I asked around and there did not appear to be too much interest. Based on an estimation from a group member that it takes an average of 1000 moves for a game of Tai Shogi. (I wonder what the shortest mate is; is there a "Mega Scolars Mate?") Based on this and an assumption that a move takes about a minute I believe I calculated that a game would take about a week. George Hodges Sr. told me that on first try it takes about 2 hours to set up the board. My question is with all this 36x36 Shogi activity on our list, how many of you have actually played this game? Or perhaps you are like I was - a bit curious at such a huge chess game. Or the ultimate challenge -- Cyber games (Heuristic matches between computers? With strict time limits of course.)
